Old news:
On Dec 17th, my class went outside for the last observation of 2010. Although not the solstice, we took a meter stick shadow measurement. Solar transit was 12:53 local time. Our shadow measured 11.25 meters. If my command of geometry is still right, that means the sun was 5 degrees above the horizon! We are ready for Spring to return.
