Not positive but probable: A robin singing just after dawn. The weather has been unseasonably warm for the past 5 days.
Tossup between Dawn Song and True Song. But listening to both, makes me sure that it was a robin I thought I heard!
Earthworms--any time I have dug in my garden, such as planting daffodils in December, LOTS of those!
Despite some cold [for here] weather, and about 2x the normal amount of rain for this point in the season, things seem to be ahead of schedule. Last year a wave of robins arrived around the end of February/beginning of March. Daily low temps are already hovering around what they were last April. We've had unseasonably warm weather for about a week, and at least another week of same is forecast.
January 30
When I went out to bring in some firewood just now [5:00 PM], the mysterious dawn singer was hopping around...no doubt looking for worms after the 3/4 inch rain we were blessed with last night and this morning, bringing a pause to the dry sunny days of the last 3 weeks.
The willows near the river are really leafing out now and the alders are covered with gold catkins. In the colder spots there was frost on Friday, but last night's low was only about 52 where I live. I didn't see lows in the 50's last year until maybe April.
Camellias are starting to bloom.
