I observed 12 to 15 robins at Quail Hollow State Park near Canton, Ohio, on a 11 degree day with 6 inches of snow on the ground. For jan 17, this seems exceptionally early for Robins and there has not been a local warming trend. Rather it's been exceptionally cold for two weeks. I have confirmed they were Robins by comparing pictures of similar species like Orioles, but I'm pretty sure I know a robin when I see one. The robins were on the brush edging a bog, and near where deer had pawed the snow clear. So I suspect this offered the best chance for finding something ediable, especially if there is a thaw on the bog (which came two days later). A warm morning sun may have contributed to them flocking to this particular brush together.
