Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 01/20/2011

Number: 1

A gob of red-wings, we have a huge flock of them here now, probably over 100 taking over the feeders and wherever else I decide to put food. They have been around for several weeks off and on. I have 4 feeders placed around our property and after I went out this morning and chipped away the ice the red-wings took them over. We also have a large group (40 or more) of Gold Finch all winter long, a few male Cardinals, Dark-Eyed Junco and a good number of Meadowlarks around. We have a small 50 gallon pond with recirculating water for them and I also provide a heated water bowl for them plus we have 2 ponds on our property so they should have an adequate water source.
No earthworm spottings other than when I was digging and they were still down a-ways.
