Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/17/2011

Number: 1

After almost a week of cold, damp, at time rainy weather here, the sun broke thru this morning and by noon a bright sky has returned. We never did get a freeze, but the curassavica and penta are wind/cold burned from winds to 50 mph and temps down to 34 dF. At noon I saw a Queen on the curassavica followed by a large male Monarch that joined it to nectar ... both stayed most of the afternoon.

Wind was SW @ 5, 61 dF, clear ... front coming late Tue to change wind around, cold front late Thur to bring near freezing again Fri and Sat. We are in the middle of the three coldest weeks of the year by record the news said.
