Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/19/2011

Number: 1

Between 12:30 and 1:00 pm, I watched four Monarchs in the the backyard, most of the time all four were in and around the curassavica bed.

One very faded female staying low on new shoots and ovipositing (fade about 4, 4+, no tatter).

One, less faded, female ovipositing (fade 2-2+).

One female nectaring (only light to moderate fade 1-2).

One male nectaring, chasing birds and falling leaves but not females (light to moderate fade 1-2).
plus one Queen ...

Also to be seen thru my binocs were two fifth instars Monarch larvae on notched leaves on the near end of the bed. Now to see if any Monarchs that are "new"
start showing up.

Wind was E @ 5-10, 65 dF, mostly clear ... front coming tomorrow after noon ... close to freezing Fri-Sat but should slip to NE ... like y'all needed it. Chance of rain Mon-Tues but staying cool, high 30's to 60 next week until end of next week. Many, many snow geese low, moving due south all day.
