Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/21/2011

Number: 1

Gail Morris showed us around the Desert Botanical Gardens, where we learned to identify two types of Arizona milkweed. Then she took us to the Audubon Pennies for the Planet Monarch Project on Rio Salado. There we saw several queen butterflies and one tagged monarch flying around the area where volunteers have planted desert milkweed. We found 21+ eggs on the plants and assume that they are queen eggs because a female queen was very busy attempting to oviposit on the milkweed. What an exciting day this was!
