I have had Monarchs in my garden all winter, which is not unusual here, although very few. The last batch of caterpillars numbered about 2 dozen and because most of the milkweed leaves shriveled after the first freeze, they did not have much to eat. But there was just enough left in more protected areas of the yard for them to pupate. About half of the pupae have been viable. I saw four butterflies emerge last Saturday but they do not fly much. I saw one actually fly, though.
