This morning, three robins were sighted in my backyard on the NE side of Madison, WI, near the Cherokee Marsh reserve. Apparently they were attracted to the four heated birdbaths I maintain here.
In mid-February, I spotted a lone Flicker at one of my birdbaths; he/she re-appeared a week or so later in the same area. (This was "unheard of early" for Flicker sightings in my area.)He/she appeared to be unusually dark, as if "dipped in oil." Does anyone have any clues about what might have caused this all-over sooty-brown cast?
