Tulips EMERGED

Date: 03/01/2011

Number: 1

Our 2nd graders went out to their tulip plot to observe their bulbs today. The weather in our area has been cold, chilly and then warm. It rained last night and many of us knew that this would be good for our bulbs. We had already seen daffodils blooming in our yards, trees with flowers on them and some of us even noticed that our allergies had started to kick in. All of these observations gave us a clue that spring was on its way. When we saw our plot, there was TOTAL surprised to see that our bulbs had sprouted from the ground and had lots of leaves. Some observations were that some leaves were eaten by bugs, the edges of the leaves were a little bit red, the leaves seemed to come out in a swirl pattern and not all of our bulbs have come up. We puzzled over this for a bit but no one could figure out why since we were all so careful when they were planted.
