Several of us were canoeing down the St. Mary's River about a half mile from St. George when a large bald eagle took flight about fifty feet in front of us. It appeared that he/she (I don't know enough to distinguish) had been perched on a low branch when we happened upon it. The eagle disappeared into the woods. We never saw it rise above the tree line. Beautiful bird.
