All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 03/08/2011

Number: 1

Around 10 am this morning, under partly cloudy skies with temps at 32 degrees and enough sunshine to melt the driveway into mud - I was surprised and puzzled to see a killdeer fly by. Listening to it's unmistakeable cry, I knew that it was for real! Passing Maplewood Cemetery in Lamont a mile from home - I met my first robin bobbing along the road! A mile further north, a red wing blackbird fluttered down to land on a cattail. He was brash and spunky, as he began flashing his colors and posturing. It was surprising and pleasant to see so much spring arrive all at the same time! It was as if a bus pulled up and let them all off together!
