Bald Eagle

Date: 03/07/2011

Number: 1

Adult American bald eagle on branch of large pecan tree and one eaglet on edge of nest late in the morning. This is second nest built by this pair of eagles. Abandoned nest about 100 yards from new nest. New nest is much closer to Hwy. 29, about 5 to 7 miles east of Llano, Texas, on south side of road. Eaglet will fledge in April according to a TX Parks & Wildlife biologist who keeps up with the eagles nesting there. Nest is on private property but there is room to pull off road in order to observe eagles. I could not determine if adult was mom or dad. Eaglet is almost as large as parent now. You may view a video from a TV news report about the eagles in Llano County by Googling KENS5 News, January 28, 2011, from San Antonio, TX. Also, a bald eagle was spotted in Kerrville at the corner of Thompson Drive and Junction Hwy. 27, behind the Lakehouse Restaurant sitting in a large Cypress tree directly across the Guadalupe River from the restaurant. Many diners observed the eagle on 03/03/11.
