Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 03/10/2011

Number: 1

I observed an adult, female Pileated Woodpecker for approximately 2 1/2 hours. This bonded pair comes through here twice a year; Sping and Fall. They stay for a while, then eventually move further North. I did not see her mate, however he was not very far away and I heard him calling to her. They have been in the neighborhood for about 1 1/2 weeks now. They are awesome to observe and hear when they call at full tilt! She was eating bugs from an old Sycamore Tree and drumming now and then. I have been seeing every year for 12 12/2 years now.
