I have approx 6 mature "mexican milkweed" plants in my garden, and I mulch them well over the winter so they survive (even though everybody told me the were annuals!). Anyway, I recently uncovered them and they are all alive, and you can just see about 1/4 inch new spouts coming up off the old stems. And we had a hard freeze in February with over 100 hours of below freezing temps here - not normal at all for Dallas, TX. If a Monarch were to show up now, they would little to nothing to lay eggs or (or nectar on) in my garden. But the main thing is the plants are growing!
