At the end of February, I posted a female laying eggs as my first observation of an adult in my location of St. Petersburg, FL, this spring though I had also recovered approximately seven larva which would indicate earlier visits.

I also noted that wasps were on the prowl for prey, but in spite of the wasps, which are this early in the season few in number, over the past two weeks I have recovered over 40 4th-5th instar monarch caterpillars from my milkweed planting. About half formed pupae to date and the remainder should in a day or two.

Adult sightings are more common now with one or two seen flying daily (3/13), almost all are females.

Have other FL monarch watchers found their milkweed plants being devoured to stubs of late?
