We went outside and we werent expecting much. To our great surprise, the tulips were emerging! We were so excited and we danced and laughed. It was wondeful. There were about 8 coming. Hopefully there will be a bunch more very soon! Their going to be gorgous!

The day after the first day of spring and more tulip plants have emerged. We counted 12 last week--this week: 31. We noticed a pattern: tulips were coming up at the edges of the bed. Hypothoses were 1) they get more water because of the dredging that defines the bed, 2) the top of the bed somehow gets more exposure to the sun, 3) the edges are warmer than the middle of the bed. We planted hundreds of bulbs and this is just the beginning. Tomorrow is a grungy day; we will be beautifying the bed to show off the coming blooms.

Its been cold, yucky weather. The tulips still look nice and healthy. Our last count, which was not even 5 minutes ago, was 43. The tallest one was 5 inches and the shortest was 3.
