Maple Syrup (FIRST Sap Run)

Date: 03/06/2011

Number: 1

yippee - hie-hie - we are so happy that ininatig, the maple tree has awakened for another spring! I noticed sap driping from a broken branch that the snowplow hit and so, we went up to the bunkie and started unpacking the buckets and spiles! With my son Paul's help, we put our 60 taps out on march 6 this year. the weather has been very strange- not much snow in the bush; mostly cloudy and gray skies and cold temperatures. we are getting about 2 barrels of sap per day this spring- pretty good run! it is now march 17 and I finished off our first bottles of syrup today.
