Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/17/2011

Number: 1

Our first multiple sighting of adult monarchs: Altus and I went with a visitor to our pasture in NW DeWitt County near Westhoff and met my brother to look at the Asclepias asperula and see how many Monarchs were flying thru the pasture (sixty miles ESE of San Antonio) . The asperula was growing with many stems (as many as 15) and many blooms and we found stems with up to two eggs. We counted fifteen monarchs flying thru the part of the pasture we were in, always S to N, in about two hours and our friend netted five for his scientific study ... 3 F, 2 M ... all faded, but two more faded and tattered, photo'd. One more later as leaving the pasture. I got stung by a red wasp and we had to leave ... will try again with him next week ... 16 monarchs in flight ... netted 5 ... the best before in past years during a day this week was 12. http://mcmc.homestead.com/31711.html
