Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/19/2011

Number: 1

While coming home from work I drove through the country side to see the bird activity. The fields are all almost free again. Near Little Falls, in Newville, I found Redwings. They seem to be establishing territories. One blew it's alarm call at me. But that was the beginning. I drove north of the Mohawk River into the Town of Manheim around Dolgeville. The farm land around Manheim Center (known as the halfway house) is teaming with redwings. The Conkalee sound fills the air. Robins are bobbing in the fields. Continuing toward Dolgeville redwings lined Snellsbush Road all the way to the outskirts of Dolgeville. Right at the village line on Barker Road there is explosive activity. I found trees covered in redwings and robins. They are now everywhere.
