Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 03/19/2011

Number: 1

Dolgeville is located near Little Falls NY in the Mohawk Valley Region. 5-7 miles west of Little Falls is Mohawk. I drove on top of Shoemaker and Fall Hill from Mohawk to Little Falls. Then I crossed the Mohawk River and drove up the northern hills to Dolgeville. It should be noted, these hills were dumped on by 1-2 feet of snow two weeks ago. Just recently an unseasonably warm wind has uncovered them. Some fields are almost entirely free. I saw robins everywhere all along Shoemaker Hill. One group was hanging out on a children’s play set. There was a large flock on Paradise Rd., on top of Fall Hill. They were very vocal with zeeeup, whinny, and peek calls. However, when I got home, I was surprised by the size of the robin wave that invaded the southern end of Dolgeville. People’s yards and fields are covered with robins along Barker Rd. and South Main St. I’m also hearing bursts of singing. They are right out in the open for people to see while entering and leaving the village. People must be thinking, yes spring is finally here. Another major development is the Hardscrabble wind farm that was installed north of Little Falls last fall. There are 37 turbines for the birds to watch out for this spring.
