Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/20/2011

Number: 1

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato is about 100 miles (161 km) north of the overwintering region.

I spent this afternoon at El Charco Botanical Gardens. I noticed many Monarchs flying overhead and some taking water from the reserve there. It seemed like hundreds in the hour or so I was there. Many are still joined in mating positions. They were clustering in some trees near the water and then moving on over the mountain range. I was at the Monarch Reserve (in Michoacan) on Mar. 9th and it was amazing to see them. They were very active then and some were already leaving.
