Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/20/2011

Number: 1

I found my first monarch larva of the season today. He appeared to be about 1 day old and was munching on a native milkweed plant, Asclepius viridis. I think there might have been more larvae born due to some tell-tale small holes on other branches of the plant, but there also was a spider on it. I decided to raise this little "first found" caterpillar indoors in relative safety. It is always a joy to watch the development of a monarch butterfly!
