I started hearing the Whippoorwill calling last night (03/21/11). He comes here every year about this time and stays all summer. I, of course, have not seen him, but his calls get very strong at approximately 3:00 a.m. until dawn. Sometimes, when I can hear him close to my house, I also hear what does sound like an answering call. However, they move around quickly and it it often hard to follow it. It does not show them as breeding this far South, but I do believe that this is a mated pair(s) that return each Spring.
