I have been hearing the Whippoorwill couple since 03/21/11. I have been hearing them here in Palm Bay, Fl for almost 13 years now. They arrive in March and stay all summer. I do believe this is a breeding pair(s)even if it does not have them down as breedng here. I hear them calling back and forth sometimes when they get close to my bedroom window at night, if I can keep it open (depends on how hot it is). It's a shame they are nocturnal.
