All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 03/24/2011

Number: 1

This morning, our class walked down to check on our tulip bulbs. The path was slippery because there was a small amount of fresh snow on the ground. We saw animal tracks in the snow on the trail towards the woods. Trees are budding after a long cold winter. Even a pussy willow was starting to bloom. We noticed a birds nest in the top of a tree. We brought a small branch back to the classroom. We saw grass peeping out of the snow everywhere. A couple of us heard one bird. We also saw a pond glazed with a shiny sheet of ice. We thought it might thaw out by the end of the day. Small brooks ran through the school grounds. We wonder if there will be peepers in the brooks nearby. The ground visible was frozen mud. Though the sun was out, it was freezing.

The bulbs have not started to sprout. It is still covered with shallow snow.
