Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/10/2011

Number: 1

We have multiple Monarchs, even in the rain and cold. We currently have 5 chrysalis in the butterfly house in the kitchen. I have a small hospital type enclosure outside. When they emerge, I put them in a wind and cold enclosure in the patio until the sun comes out. The "hospital" has nectar sources and is protected from wind and cold. When their wings are warmed they fly away. We have 20 or so catapillars on the milkweed. The Grandchildren love them and so do I.

I collect the chrysalis by tying it off at the top with dental floss, then relocaten them. I have found butterflies on the ground in bad weather and put them in the "hospital. When it warms up they fly away.
