My home butterfly garden is proud to be Monarch Waystation #271. I maintain milkweeds and nectar plants in my front and back yards so that monarchs and other butterflies can find host plants for their caterpillars and mectar for the adults. Over the years I've been decreasing non-native plants and replacing them with Virginia natives, filling in with annuals like tropical milkweed and Zinnias to draw butterflies in. Animals seen in my yard include toads, skinks, turtles, rabbits, mantids, lacewings, dragonflies, bees, wasps, ants, beetles, many butterflies & moths & their caterpillars, flies, small earth snakes, greensnake, hummingbirds, finches, squirrels, spiders, chicadees [nested], wrens, doves, hawks, & frogs! A happy habitat in a space 20 by 5 feet in the back, 10 by 20 in front [minus a sidewalk]. If you plant it, they will come!
