Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/03/2011

Number: 1

Welcome Monarchs!!! Just spotted my 1st Monarch of the season- a faded female trying to nectar on my lilac bush, hanging on for dear life due to the strong southerly winds 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph! Temps around 88 degrees. A slight chance of rain tonight, with a cool off tomorrow of around 58, and winds changing to the north. Hopefully, she'll hang around, and lay some eggs on the mw I have for her. The Monarchs are struggling to make it through Oklahoma in this crazy wind.

After seeing my 1st Monarch sighting in my yard about 3 p.m., went out about 6 p.m. after the winds had died down, and saw possibly the same Monarch trying to nectar again on the lilac bush, and about 3 minutes later, saw another Monarch heading north flying low to the ground about 4 blocks north of the Monarch at home! So, I may have seen 3 today. Monarchs are making their way thru Oklahoma. Reported to MW.
