For the third year, Altus, my brother, and I, have hosted a monarch reseacher to our pasture in northwestern DeWitt County to gather live specimen of remigrants at the beginning of April. He was hoping for at least twenty males and twenty females. The pasture is 60 miles ESE of San Antonio and 75 inland of the coast and is a known path for the early March and April remigrants. He, with my brother doing some south Texas guiding, managed to net 21 females and 35 males Fri and Sat, Apr 1 and 2, ... he was able to quit early.

To net 44 in one day, you have to have at least 200 fly by the small space you are in, but being on wheels, he covered a bit more space! We were watching 300 yards to the left, to the front, around to the right ... I used binocs ... a "Monarch Roundup."
April 6
A very faded, translucent monarch male taken in our pasture yesterday (April 6), 60 miles ESE of San Antonio. Twenty-four were netted between eleven and three to examine fade and wear m/f ratio ... 20 m/4 f. All twenty-four were faded and some were very tattered. We have been netting and examining the remigrants for three weeks now.
