Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 03/16/2011

Number: 1

This has been my first observed "wave" of migrating robins on the valley floor. Persistent rains and wind have finally opened up fields and meadows. I observed perhaps 25 robins picking through the freshly thawed earth in a hay field along the road, then another group of a dozen or so working down the side of the highway, heading north toards Sandpoint, ID. We have scattered overwintering robins in the towns in North Idaho, but the migrants have finally arrived! Wish I could say the same for birds at my home. I live 500ft higher than the valley floor, but still have 14" of snow on the yard. No worms to feed them there yet!
