This week, counts were conducted only at the PG Sanctuary and the private property site in Big Sur, since monarchs have dispersed from all other sites. The counts were done during warm temperatures and clear. The average number of monarchs at the Pacific Grove sanctuary was 588. The monarchs became very active early in the morning and mating was observed before counting was through. More monarchs were counted this week at the private property site in Big Sur than we counted last week, but there are no longer clusters here and the monarchs may have been more visible due to the warm temperatures.
