Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/11/2011

Number: 1

Last week's counts were conducted from 11-20 Jan. Conditions were cold during the first few days with a heat wave that delayed counts for a couple of days. Most of the sites stayed around the same as the previous counts. The Pismo Grove is still going strong with over 10,000 monarchs! There are still dense clusters and clustering is occurring closer to the sunny areas of the groves. Matings have been observed at many sites, especially during the heat wave. Tags continue to be detected at Halcyon & Oceano. There appears to be a fair bit of movement between sites, as tags are also being detected at Pismo, SLO Cemetery, Los Osos and Morro Bay.
