Counting conditions were warm and sunny. Many monarchs were flying just after sunrise. At most sites, monarchs were clustered in small groups or alone. Most of the sites are down to a small fraction of the peak population size. The average number of monarchs counted at Pismo was only 1,053. Despite the small population size, matings were observed at Pismo.
