When we went outside some of our red tulips were blooming while others were still closed and dormant. The ones that were open were about ten or eleven inches tall and felt smooth like silk or rubbery. The tulips smelt fresh and some students said it reminded them of soap or lysol products. Half of our tulips were still not open, but we wanted to report prior to our spring recess next week.
The ones that were open had anywhere from five to eight petals on them. We also noticed that some of the tulips had multiplied and had another tulip growing right next to it. They are growing in a spot that does get a lot of sun during the day and under a small tree that has yet to bloom. Many of the tulips appearred to be intertwined with the ones growing next to them and some were even stealing sun from smaller ones. The center of the tulips had yellow stamens and the pollen looked purple or pink in color. The leaves were fuzzy to the touch and large in size.
