Last year our ice out was 4/1 and the first loon was 4/4 on our 827 acre lake. This year the ice is only open 100 feet from shore and the day the first loon was heard (4/18) the lake froze over again that night. The lake did not melt near shore again until the next afternoon, but the loon was heard again after that. I heard the loon calling until 9pm the night it froze over. I wonder what it did that night? We are still battling repeated new snowfall.
