All winter we have continued to see a few monarch butterflies at Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area in downtown Phoenix. We had a second hard freeze at the beginning of February but now still see 4 tagged monarchs flying around the habitat. Today was a major event - two monarchs mating for the first time!!! We spotted #576M (orignally tagged 1/28/10) and #577M (tagged 1/9/11) mating around 1:30 p.m. Up until today we have not seen any mating or egg-laying at the habitat.
