Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/29/2011

Number: 1

The first generation begins! Today the first monarch eclosed from eggs laid 2/22/11 - a male - at 12:20 p.m. at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area in downtown Phoenix. First time ever we've had the first generation since planting the milkweed habitat last year.

April 21 Update
All together we had 11 new monarchs: 5 females and 6 males. This was my favorite photo - a newly eclosed female nectaring on mesquite flowers!
