Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/18/2011

Number: 1

We went back to the nursery to get more milkweed plants and found a 4th instar on one of the plants. Also saw 5 vibrant monarchs inside visiting all the flowers. At home, we now have 9 chrysalis' in our butterfly habitat. And we have about 30 more larvae between 1st and 4th instar. We've lost a few young ones to disease but have been keeping the funny looking ones seperated from the healthy population. Have new eggs daily and see adult monarchs almost everyday. They seem to visit around lunchtime or early evening when it's cool out. Cant wait for our first monarch to enclose any day now!
