Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/25/2011

Number: 1

I hung the feeder up on the 22nd but the weather was bouts of heavy rain and blustery thunderstorms all weekend. Then on the afternoon of the 25th something caught my eye and it was a male hummingbird inspecting the feeder. He sat down on a branch, but as there were other birds at the seed feeders, he flitted around from branch to branch while I was turning on the camera and trying to locate him in the viewfinder. I did get a picture of the first sighting. WOW!
A few hours later the female came to feed, although she stayed on the backside of the feeder and I couldn't see her well enough to tell if she is our last year's female. She came back yesterday but the carpenter bees chased her away. What to do?
