All Other Signs of Spring

Spring has been calling me to the woods and today I couldn't help myself but go. Wonderful sights awaited me. Pepper and salt or harbinger of Spring, my first flower of spring; blue violets, a favorite of childhood; toothwort, so showy for the forest; Spring beauties that blend with the grass to make an Oriental carpet of the lawn; red, baby buckeye leaves, I am an Ohio State Alum but was a buckeye tree lover first; the scent of a damp woods; and a last year's baby garter snake. I almost missed my picture of the snake as when I touched him he moved under the leaves. However, he was still so chilled that I uncovered him and he held still for his close-up. Spring is my favorite season and today is perfect! Warm enough for the flowers to bloom and to go without a sweater, but cool enough that the flowers last a long time and one can hike up and down the hills comfortably. Perfect!
