Date: 04/27/2011

Number: 1

Monarch Waystation #299, Virginia Living Museum, reports the first sighting of Monarch larvae on the common milkweed [Asclepias syriaca] growing in our Children's Learning Garden!! They were first instar larvae about 5 mm long. The above normal spring temperatures in April have accelerated the growth of milkweeds and advanced the arrival of monarchs to the area from last year.
