Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/27/2011

Number: 1

I thought I saw a Hummie this morning as I was packing my lunch for the day, but I didn't have my glasses on and could not be 100% sure. I called for my Husband to come quickly, but he was taking the trash can to the curb. I linger as long as I could befor leaving for Campus, but no bird appeared. I know I saw something, but I would not make a report unless I was sure. Much to my delight, upon returning home, both my husband and I saw a young male at our feeders. Last year, the first bird arrived on 4/28, so the little flyer was one day ahead. It's official ! Spring has finally arrived on Long Island. We are "doing the hummie dance", and are thrilled !
