We were surprised late this afternoon! We spotted our first Ruby Throated Hummingbird around 5PM....a male.... but he wasn't at our feeder!

Working his way up a line of trees between road and field, he was very quiet but we recognized that faint hummm of his wings... and there he was going from tree to tree looking for food.

He never even went to the feeder that was about 500 yards away!

5/2/11... by way of an update, a single male visited our feeder early this morning, making several trips. It was 37 degrees!!!
