Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/02/2011

Number: 1

Hey All,

First Sighting of the year, a tall Male Ruby Throated Hummer visited our new feeder, placed at the site of the former. In comparison to the normal female that guarded the prior feeder, this one was nearly twice her size.

It is good to see that Hummers have returned to our area. We are worried that the cold last Fall or the turbulent weather this Spring may have caught up with our normal visitors. (As the small female has not returned yet; we continue to hold our breath.)

Noticed that the feeder is down by 1/4 seems this evening. It seems to suggest at least someone is visiting, I am just concerned for our previous nesting families.

I will update the report if our long lost pair returns...

Cheers!
Dave Cooke
