Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/02/2011

Number: 1

When I read about a sighting of a Ruby Throat in Westerly, R.I., I went out and put up my own feeders. I could hardly believe that a hummer would come through in this kind of cloudy, cool weather - but on the morning of May 2, one came directly to my closest feeder, then went to the next, and finished filling up at the third. I believe, having watched his performance, that these little guys do return to their familiar surroundings, and go directly to the spots they found satisfactory last year. They are so welcome!!!
