Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/04/2011

Number: 1

I saw the first male hummingbird of the season on Wednesday, May 4,2011 at a feeder that I put up on May 1st. The only things blooming are the daffodils, virginia blue bells, some vinca ground cover and some woodland anemone.
The crabapple tree has flower buds but nothing is flowering. Last year it was finished flowering at this time. Our April was gray and colder than normal. With all of the severe weather to the South of us I was surprized to see him this early. He is about a week or so ahead of schedule. He was a welcome surprise.
