(note: The Nenana Ice Classic is an annual contest held in Alaska since 1917 to guess the exact time the Tanana River ice breaks up in the area of Nenana. A tripod is placed on the ice with a long tether to a clock on the shore. When the river ice begins its break-up the tripod will begin to move downriver and the tether pulls on the clock thereby stopping the clock.)
