I came home right after work to find an oriole in my back yard, about 12 ft off the ground in a dead tree at the back of our 1/2 acre lot. We are located two blocks from the Rock River, a southwestward flowing drainage in N. IL that heads down to the Mississippi. This is our second year at this residence and this is the first oriole that I have identified here. Our area is residential with mature riparian woodland on uplands just off of the Rock River.
