Approximately 5 days ago late in the afternoon, early evening on May 2, 2011 my husband & I spotted a large flock of birds in just down the road from our acreage on a neighboring field. There must've been about 200-300 of these large birds. They were quite a distance away but you could tell they were not geese or ducks as they had long legs and long slender necks. Over the next few days I managed to take a few pictures and find the same birds on the internet. They are Sandhill Cranes. I managed to get a few close-up pictures where you can clearly see the red markings above their eyes. They are fascinating to watch as they dance and prance in the field. The flock has shrunk down to about 8-10 birds as of tonite(May 7, 2011)
